I Chopin's competition for Children was initiated in 1999, it took place in Jelenia Góra. This event leaded to the successive cooperation between Philharmonic hall of Lower Silesia in Jelenia Góra and Fryderyk Chopin Music Academy in Warsaw. Earlier both institutions were main operators of polish festival "The Stars Promoted", which had already few editions before.

The main competition initiator was Professor Andrzej Chorosiński, who was that time an artistic director of Philharmonic hall of Lower Silesia.

The primary idea of competition that distinguishes it from anather polish music events is performance at the third stage the instrumental pieces with orchestra accompaniment. All this means excellent level of competition's reputation and difficulty. Moreover children under 15 are the main performers and for most of them it is their first contact with philharmonic orchestra.

Next editions will take place every three years. The members of the jury are the most remarkable academic teachers, who are top-experts of piano skills. The jury chairman from the first edition is Professor Kazimierz Gierżod.

Inauguration Concert of Chopin's Competition for children is always held with participation of first place winner in B category of previous edition.

From the third edition in 2005 the competition has international range. Next Chopin’s Competition for children will take place in November 2008.
